Picnic Hampers

Picnic TimeTime tpack the picnic hampers and join family and friends in the great outdoors!  If you're like me, nice weather makes you look for an excuse – any excuse – to be outside doing things.  Especially if you get a chance to do them with your people.

And of course the first thing that comes to mind is probably the idyllic picnic scene:  A red and white checkered blanket laid out smoothly on the ground on a nice hill overlooking a perfect vista.  A large bushy tree stands nearby providing just the right mix of shade and dappled sunlight.  A cool breeze rises and falls gently.  One or two wicker picnic hampers are on hand with an assortment of sandwiches, cheese, fruit and beverages.  And let's not forget the romantic picnic portrayed in so many classic movies featuring two people in love.  Ah… yes!

So it's easy, right?  Just grab the ol' picnic set and run for the hills with perfect picnic food and good company.

Well, maybe.

With the pastime being portrayed so frequently it's easy to forget that a little planning and the right accoutrements can go a long way to making your picnic not only memorable but a whole lot easier to pull off.  Plus, it can be lighter on the wallet too.

And it's always good to remember that picnics needn't always be relegated to the scene described above.  Many other times are perfect for picnics.  A day at the beach is a prime example.  Going on a mountain hike?  We always think to bring our water and trail mix but for the simple day hike, it's not a stretch to also have everything you need for a very nice meal on the mountain.  Will you be enjoying a holiday celebration with your community?  Perhaps attending a sporting event?  Attending a parade?  These can all become an ideal time to grab an empty picnic basket or pack up a backpack picnic set, blanket and perfect picnic food for a fun and satisfying time to be had by all.

Growing up, I had the chance to experience all of these kinds of picnics.  I'm sure many of you did as well.  Maybe you didn't realize it at the time but they were all some sort of picnic in the end.

With this site, I want to help renew this old and seemingly forgotten activity.  I'll go over some of the things that make it much easier and hopefully help you seek the old picnic hampers out, dust them off and put them to use once more.  Let's go!
